Research:
Photosynthesis is one of the key processes in nature ascertaining the existence of life.
Mimicry of the process using synthetic model compounds is vital to further develop our understanding of the complex processes of bioenergetics. Considering the structural and functional aspects of photosynthesis, a cyclic supramolecular assembly with light-harvesting functionality is probably the closest model for photosynthesis. Towards the goal various cyclic supramolecular assemblies with photoactive units will be synthesized and their properties will be investigated.
