Research:
Merocyanine dyes are highly versatile building blocks for supramolecular systems because of the strong dipolar aggregation between the chromophores. Moreover merocyanine dyes with tailored properties pointed out to be very efficient donor materials in bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells in combination with the acceptor material PCBM. The current research is focused on the synthesis of novel bis- and tris(merocyanine) dyes, the investigation of their aggregation properties as well as the testing of their applicability as donor materials in BHJ solar cells.
